Ki Tavo
Ki Tavo, Ki Thavo, Ki Tabo, Ki Thabo, or Ki Savo ( — Hebrew for "when you enter," the second and third words, and the first distinctive words, in the parashah) is the 50th weekly Torah portion (, ''parashah'') in the annual Jewish cycle of Torah reading and the seventh in the book of Deuteronomy. It constitutes The parashah is made up of 2,575 Hebrew letters, 657 Hebrew words, and 40 verses, and can occupy about 87 lines in a Torah Scroll (, ''Sefer Torah'').〔(【引用サイトリンク】accessdate=July 6, 2013 )〕 Jews generally read it in September or, rarely, in late August.〔(【引用サイトリンク】accessdate=September 5, 2014 )〕 The parashah tells of the ceremony of the first fruits (, ''bikkurim''), tithes, and the blessings from observance and curses from violation of the law. ==Readings== In traditional Sabbath Torah reading, the parashah is divided into seven readings, or , ''aliyot''. In the Masoretic Text of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible), Parashah Ki Tavo has four "open portion" (, ''petuchah'') divisions (roughly equivalent to paragraphs, often abbreviated with the Hebrew letter (''peh'')). Parashah Ki Tavo has several further subdivisions, called "closed portion" (, ''setumah'') divisions (abbreviated with the Hebrew letter (''samekh'')) within the open portion (, ''petuchah'') divisions. The first open portion (, ''petuchah'') spans the first three readings (, ''aliyot''). The second open portion (, ''petuchah''), contains all of the fourth and fifth readings (, ''aliyot'') and part of the sixth reading (, ''aliyah''). The third open portion (, ''petuchah'') constitutes the balance of the sixth reading (, ''aliyah''), which enumerates a series of curses. The fourth open portion (, ''petuchah'') is identical with the seventh reading (, ''aliyah''). Closed portion (, ''setumah'') divisions coincide with the first two readings (, ''aliyot''). Closed portion (, ''setumah'') divisions further divide the fourth, fifth, and sixth readings (, ''aliyot''), and a string of 11 closed portion (, ''setumah'') divisions set off a series of curses in the fifth reading (, ''aliyah'').〔See, e.g., Menachem Davis.
